Canadian Rehabilitation Institute was established in 1995. Our Head Office and main location continues to be in Toronto with 46 satellite offices throughout the province, including several in the GTA.
Over the years, CRI has completed independent medical assessments for 40+ auto insurers in the province of Ontario, as well as TTC, Wheel-Trans, HRDC (Human Resources Development Canada), WSIB and various LTD insurers, private businesses/corporations.
CRI began by providing:
- Expert independent medical assessments for the WCB (WSIB), Long Term Disability Insurers, GTA-based corporations, and auto insurers. Original assessments included claimants with chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and/or unresolved soft tissue injuries greater than 2 years.
- "Functional Return To Work" programs for auto insurers and WCB (WSIB) claimants with files open greater than 3 years.
CRI’s core business became and continues to be expert medical assessments, utilizing 32 health-related professions across Ontario (and Canada through CRI-Canada). Active Rehabilitation has ceased as we focus on IEs.
In 1996, CRI added DAC Assessments (Medical &Rehabilitation) to its IE business. As DACs were phased out in 2006, our sole focus is Insurer Examinations, mainly in the auto market.
In terms of timeliness, FSCO data shows that CRI was the DAC (Med/Rehab) with the fastest time to produce a report onto the adjuster’s desk from time of referral, on each of the two occasions this metric was evaluated.
